Kiato:
It’s the capital of the municipality of Sikyonas.In the past it was called Sikyonia. It’s built on the coastline of the Korinthic Gulf on the old highway Athens-Patra. It’s the second biggest center in Korinthia and has very developed trading movement and industry, having agricultural facilities and mainly producing raisins. The port is big and in the lowland of Voha olive trees and citrus fruit trees are cultivated. Visit the ancient theatre Sikyonos one of the biggest ancient theatres, the remaining of the gymnasium, the congress building, the archway as well as the Archeological Museum which inscriptions, ceramics and statues from the Archaic, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine years. Every year in the first two weeks of August the municipality organises fiests of cultural character in the ancient theatre(builted approximately in 251 to 168BC, 122m in length, curved in the rock), known as the Sikyonia Festival. By the coast Kiato is a summer resort built mostly on fertile lowland. In ancient years it was called Sikyon and acmed when Klesthenis ruled and philosophers, artists and orators such as Polykletos, Kleon and Lyssipos appeared. In Kiato was found the remarkable statue of Dionysos (god of wine and theatre) which is kept at the Archeological Museum in Athens. There was also found a spa of the Roman ages saved, preserved and today used as a Museum. There you will find exhibitions of the territory , primative clay statues, archaic mosaic floors with scenes taken from mythology, early christianic and Byzantine sculptures, sculptures of Pana, Artemis and the figure of Ekati of the Roman era. Apart from the beautiful beaches you will swim in Kiato, you will also find very vivid night life.
